Short answer: A scorpion sealing inspection is a walk around the outside of your home, plus a look at doors, the garage and the attic, to find every gap a scorpion can use. It usually takes 30 to 60 minutes and ends with a written quote.
What the inspector checks
- Every exterior door, including the gaps at the corners of the sweep
- The garage door's bottom seal and the side gaps
- The weep screed along the base of stucco walls
- Pipes, hose bibs, A/C lines, cable and electrical entries
- Attic, soffit, roof and dryer vents
- Window screens and the caulk around window frames
- Block walls, rock piles and plants touching the house
Questions to ask before you sign
- What exactly will you seal, and with what materials?
- Is the work guaranteed? For how long, and what does it cover?
- Is a yearly re-check included or extra?
- Will you seal the weep screed in a way that still lets moisture out?
- Are you licensed with the state?
In Arizona, you can look up a pest company's license on the Arizona Department of Agriculture's license search before you hire them.
How to read the quote
A good quote lists the work room by room or side by side, not just one total. If two quotes are far apart, compare what's included. A low price often leaves out the weep screed or attic vents, two of the most common ways in.
Common questions
Is the inspection free?
Many companies offer a free inspection and quote. Ask when you call.
Do I need to be home?
Usually yes, so they can check doors, the garage and the attic access.
